At high temperature, the aluminum profile has high plasticity and low resistance, coupled with the intensified atomic diffusion process and complete recrystallization, which is beneficial to the improvement of the structure.Thermal deformation is the most effective way to change the as-cast structure of aluminum profiles when the 3-direction compressive stress is dominant.The following favorable changes of as-cast microstructure can be obtained with appropriate deformation.
(1)The general thermal deformation is accomplished through repeated deformation of multiple steps.As both hardening and softening processes occur simultaneously in each strand.The large columnar grains were broken by deformation of industrial aluminum profiles.At the same time, it can also make some small cracks can be healed.
(2)Due to the hydrostatic pressure in the stress state, bubble welding can be promoted in the as-cast structure, shrinkage cavity compaction, loose compaction and densification can be changed into a relatively compact structure.
(3)Due to the enhanced thermal motion ability of high temperature atoms, under the action of stress, the free diffusion and heterdiffusion of atoms are conducive to the relative reduction of the ingot chemical composition non-uniformity.
By thermal deformation, the ingot structure improves the deformed (or processed) structure, resulting in higher density, uniform fine equiaxial grains, and more uniform chemical composition, thus significantly improving the plasticity and resistance index.
